The International Music Olympiad Anthem (Let's sing together - karaoke, Closing & Awards Ceremony)

Speeches by Dušan Bavdek, Nenad Firšt and Ene Kragon (Closing & Awards Ceremony)

Welcome speech by Dušan Bavdek (Slovenia),

Vice Dean for International Activities and Quality,

University of Ljubljana, Academy of Music

Dear competitors, dear teachers-mentors, dear jurors, dear organizers,

It is a real pleasure to see you and be with you today! I would like to express my warm greetings to all of you on behalf of the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music. It was an honour for our institution to host this amazing international event. I am sure you enjoyed the Olympiad, even if this time the organization was carried out online.

I couldn't follow all the disciplines of the competition but I did listen to the compositions by the competitors and was really impressed by their sincerity and lots of the musical imagination and fantasy which was shown there.

Allow me to congratulate first the winners but immediately after that all the competitors! In arts, it is sometimes difficult to measure and judge the results. The reason is that we, the people are different and each of us is bringing his or her own unique and precious particle to the common mosaic of society. Thus, at the end all of you are winners as the Olympiad would not be what it was without each and every one of you!

Finally, I would like to thank you and congratulate all the members of the International Music Olympiad Academic Committee, the International Jury and the Organizing Committee for your hard and professional work and extremely successful organization of this event! Allow me to express my special thanks to Prof Dr Branka Rotar Pance for her initiative, her vision, and for being spiritus agens of this amazing event which brings together people and nations and arouses hope for a better, more empathic and cultural world.

I hope in the future the Ljubljana Academy of Music and Slovenia host the International Music Olympiad not only online but also in the city of Ljubljana which would allow us to meet in flesh.

Congratulations and very best wishes to all of you!

Welcome speech by Nenad Firšt (Slovenia)

General Secretary of the Jeunesses Musicales Slovenia

President of the Jury of the 5th IMuO

Dear young musicians, competitors at this year's International Music Olympiad, dear colleagues from the jury, who have so enthusiastically prepared and carried out all phases of the competition.

And dear Branka Rotar Pance, you are most responsible for the fact that this year's International Olympics took place in Slovenia under the honorary patronage of Borut Pahor, the President of the Republic of Slovenia.

On behalf of JM Slovenia, which together with the Academy of Music UL organized this music week, and as the president of the international jury, I am honored and happy to have had the opportunity to meet so many young and talented musicians. You all prepared well for the competition, the original compositions we listened to were diverse, rich in ideas, carefully prepared and performed. I can say the same for vocal performances. We heard a wide range, from folk and popular melodies to classical songs. Each of the performances was unique and engaging.

Congratulations to all!

I sincerely thank my colleagues on the jury and all the members of the organizing committee for their excellent work and good will.

Finally, I would like to add a message to young people: good music, like other arts, has a significant impact on the quality of life. Please, listen to good music, be creative and curious. Europe and the world need awakened, critical and aware individuals.

I wish you all the best in hope that we will meet live next time. In Slovenia or somewhere else.

Welcome speech by Ene Kangron  (Estonia)

President of the International Music Olympiad Academic Committee

Dear participants of the 5th International Music Olympiad, dear colleagues!

Please accept my warm greetings and congratulations on the successful performance of the Music Olympiad.  I am grateful for the opportunity to listen to your compositions and vocal performances during last weeks. Your performances were full of energy and new ideas, but also a sense of nature and philosophy.

And you made history of Music Olympiads. It  is the first time the International Music Olympiad which is now 10 years old has been held virtually. And everything worked perfectly in these conditions – thanks to all organizers for this excellent work, thank you, Branka and all your colleagues and institutions, especially to the University of Ljubljana Academy of Music.

My special thanks and congratulations go to all music teachers who supported their students to prepare for  this Olympiad.

Dear participants! You've become friends with music, and that's a great value for your whole life.

Lithuanian composer Gediminas Purlys has written the Olympiad anthem Cantemus ad unum omnes and with these words I would like to end my greeting to all of you:

„Musica, oo Musica,  you are my life and hope, which the mind and soul are gloryfying...”

Thank you!
